Girl Scouts

girls1Girl Scouts: have fun, do community service, have leadership opportunities, and learn team building all while achieving the Girl Scout mission: “To build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”

Girl Scouts at HTIS are open to girls at every grade level from Kindergarten to 8th. Girl Scouts offers a continuous program with many age levels:

  • Daisy Girl Scouts – Kindergarten – grade 1
  • Brownie Girl Scouts – grades 2-3
  • Junior Girl Scouts – grades 4-5
  • Cadette Girl Scouts – grades 6-8

HTIS has a troop in each grade level and is part of the Westfield Service Unit in the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey Council ( which is a part of the national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA. Most troops meet once a month after school, and actively participate in other local council events, or field trips, and outings such as hayrides, ice skating, camporee, and ingatherings. Girl Scouts wear their scout uniforms (tunic, vest, or sash) to meetings or to any Girl Scout function. The uniform provides a vehicle for girls to show badges earned for participation in certain activities or awards for accomplishments.

Each troop is lead by a volunteer adult leader or co-leaders and parent assistants. Adult volunteers complete applications including background and reference checks, orientation, as well as basic and level training, which cover safety and troop rules. Parent participation is encouraged and welcomed.

Each year the HTIS Girl Scouts hold several school events: a Father/Daughter Dance, Girl Scout Sunday and a Court of Awards. Many troops also organize annual service events including mitten tree, food drive, book and pj drive, collections for those affected by natural disasters or animals in shelters.

And, what would Girl Scouts be without their famous cookies! Holy Trinity troops sell Girl Scout cookies usually from January to April. This is the main fundraiser for the troops which enables them to participate in many of the above events.

Registration is online through the Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey website,, in coordination with troop leaders.

To learn more or to register your daughter, please contact the HTIS Girl Scout consultant: Gretchen Byrne, or 908-233-7436. Adult volunteers are always welcome!
