Sponsored by NCEA, CSW is an annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. Schools typically observe the week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to Church, local communities and the nation.
This year’s theme is Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.
Holy Trinity School’s focuses on “Service” during National Catholic Schools Week
Holy Trinity School students learn more about helping others and are giving back to local communities. Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade participate in a day-long retreat and make cards for the soldiers and home bound, collect food for the HT food pantry, and collect Christmas gifts for local families in need. Seventh grade students work in conjunction with the shelter at the Plainfield YMCA, donating and packing supplies for the needy. Eighth graders make Valentine Care packages and along with their parent drivers deliver meals and treats to the home bound through Westfield’s Mobile Meals program. Additionally students in sixth through eighth grade take part in a day long retreat, “Building Bridges to Peace”, at St. Joseph’s Retreat Center in Sterling, NJ. Even the youngest at Holy Trinity participate in these acts of mercy. Students collect personal care items for welcome bags for the families staying overnight at Children’s Specialized Hospital in Mountainside.
